Illustator and Xara files show that they can be, disregarding whether using the embedded font, or a replacing font. The problem with Affinity apps is that while they allow specifying a replacing font, not all glyphs will be rendered correctly.

But if there is no stylistically exact or even close to exact replacement font available, the Xara method is nice to have. This way the text stays easily editable so basically this is often the preferred method.

This is a useful feature that I have not found in other apps (the other useful option would be having the font replaced at open time and interpreted by using correct glyphs but losing the outlook).īelow an example of how Illustrator would open the file, in this case the embedded font replaced with Times Roman (only Regular style has been used so bold and possible other stylings would need to be reapplied manually). (If you instead change the font or type in text, you normally get messed up results). Yes, but isn't this the idea of embedding? What I think is clever in Xara is that it renders the opened text using the embedded font so that you can try to edit it by copy pasting existing glyphs. One can type using the embedded font(s) in XP&GD as long as the new characters exist in the file already. I hope to not have to retype very many.īut try changing the font. I will have more to edit as future events arise. I have almost 500 pages in one genealogy line and 270 in another genealogy lineage. My "little problem" is now a "bigger problem!" I thought a pdf document is a pdf document and there should not be a problem. (Copy and paste) from the original pdf into a text box in AfPub is still bad. It is still random symbols mixed with letters. When opening with no "Replace missing fonts, I get the (Missing Font 2) message. It resulted in the same scrambled replacement even though I again used a new pdf page. I tried again in the ( Missing font) message and to (Replace Lucinda Grande) which I THINK was the original replacement text. It was not good with symbols replacing some letters. Then using a new (page 1.pdf) page I opened it with the Times font. Sometimes when trying to type new words, the letters spread wide and don't maintain correct spacing. There are multiple text boxes, some overlapping, which make editing more difficult.

The movie _The Graduate` got it right in just one word and _Plastics` was magic in the 1960s. When I look back at my fathergs life, especially before the last couple years, it was a very good life.Īnd quotation marks become.

The apostrophes become the letter "g" like this. I have also tried Open from under File at the top of the window. I have been printing the desired page as a pdf document to the desktop and then dragging it onto the AfPub icon at the bottom of my iMac screen. I want to edit items on pages from pdf documents in my genealogy files.
